4th Annual Donald L Snellings Memorial Trail Ride and Picnic
The 4th Annual Donald L Snellings Trail Ride and Summer Picnic could not have been on a better day. The weather was perfect! Sunny and not too hot! The ride and picnic were held at the Life Adventure Center in Versailles, KY. We missed our fearless trail boss, Tim McGill, but the Life Adventure Center staff were great guides for our trail ride, and the pavilion was great spot to gather for lunch and games after.
The Life Adventure Center crew led the trail ride all over the beautiful 550 plus acres of LAC. The trails are well maintained and in great shape for any type of rider. Approximately twenty riders enjoyed riding the trails and seeing the sites of LAC. The trails snaked through woods, crossed a few small creeks, and finished back at the pavilion.
The Life Adventure Center also hosts numerous programs throughout the year. They have summer camps that focus on environmental education, horse camps, and even vaulting lessons. The Life Adventure Center is most proud of their Warrior Adventure Program that is aimed at helping wounded service members reconnect and bond with their families through many different outdoor activities.
After the ride was over, horses were untacked, bathed, and settled so everyone could enjoy the second part of the day – KTFMC Summer Picnic! LAC’s climbing wall and dueling zip lines were the main attraction! Everyone lined up to see who was brave enough to strap into a harness and climb the wall before snapping on to the zip line and racing over a pond to the landing on the opposite bank. LAC’s covered pavilion provided plenty of space for everyone to hangout, listen to music, and socialize around picnic tables. The younger children enjoyed many types of games. You could also play corn-hole, hillbilly golf, and practice your roping skills on the roping dummy. The hay ride also gave you a great look at the Life Adventure Center property.
Thin Blue Smoke BBQ provided a wonderful and tasty meal! Everyone enjoyed the spread of pulled pork, cowboy beans, potato salad, and numerous other dishes that were provide potluck style by picnickers. After the meal, activities resumed!
After a great day of horses, family, food, and fun, KTFMC trail riders and picnickers headed their separate directions feeling refreshed and ready to conquer the challenges of the approaching sale season. Good luck to all this season!
LAC’s horse, walking, and mountain biking trails are open to the public throughout the year. For more information on the trails and all of LAC’s programs, please visit their website at www.lifeadventurecenter.org.
